La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid has initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding the potential signing of English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. This move aims to secure his participation in the upcoming Club World Cup scheduled for June, as reported by a sports news outlet.
On Monday, Trent announced his decision to part ways with Liverpool after a remarkable two-decade tenure, with his contract set to expire on June 30. Real Madrid is slated to kick off their Club World Cup campaign on June 18 against Al Hilal in Miami.
Sources indicate that Real Madrid is likely to pursue their initial inquiry further, as they are keen on acquiring Trent's talents for the prestigious tournament.
Potential Absence in Initial Matches
Should Liverpool opt not to release Trent early, he would still be eligible to participate in the latter stages of the tournament. However, he would miss Real Madrid's opening matches against Al Hilal, Pachuca on June 22, and Salzburg on June 27.
Teams competing in the Club World Cup have the opportunity to register players during a special in-tournament window, which will be available from June 27 to July 3.
Trent's Emotional Farewell to Liverpool
Reports suggest that Trent has verbally committed to joining Real Madrid following his announcement to leave Liverpool at the season's conclusion.
"This decision has not come easily; it has involved considerable thought and emotion. I have spent 20 years here, cherishing every moment and achieving all my aspirations," Arnold expressed in a statement released by Liverpool.
Trent joined Liverpool's Academy at the tender age of six, rising through the youth ranks before making his senior debut in 2016. Over his career, he has played 352 matches for Liverpool, scored 23 goals, and secured eight major trophies, including this season's Premier League title.
In his farewell message, Trent stated, "After dedicating 20 years to Liverpool, I must confirm my departure at the season's end. This is undoubtedly the most challenging decision I've ever faced. I feel it's time for a new challenge, both as a player and as an individual."
Trent has showcased exceptional attacking and defensive abilities on the right flank, contributing to Liverpool's triumphs in the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup, along with two Carabao Cups, two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and one Community Shield.
